Sogon · iPhone app
The sound at your baby’s ear, measured, with a way to turn it down.
Hold your iPhone at your baby’s head height for 10 seconds. Sogon compares the level with a guideline, tells you how far to move the white noise machine, and plays its own sleep sounds only at levels under 50 dB.

Ten seconds is enough
Measure at your baby’s head height. The average level is compared with the 50 dB guideline and shown in green, yellow or red.
- Goodup to 50 dB
- A little loudup to 60 dB
- Too loudabove that
Too loud? Move it, by the numbers
If the level is over the guideline, Sogon tells you how far to move the machine or whether to turn it down. Double the distance and it drops about 6 dB.

Sleep sounds that stay under 50 dB
Nine sounds, with no ads. Sogon works out the level at your baby’s spot from the phone volume and the distance, and blocks anything above 50 dB. The estimate leans loud, to stay on the safe side.
- A 30-minute, 1-hour or 2-hour timer fades the sound out over its last 10 minutes
- Keeps playing with the screen locked or in another tab
- Shows on the Lock Screen

Toys, outings and videos too
Toys
Rattles, mobiles and music toys. Short beeps and long songs are judged separately, against toy safety standards.
Outings
Kids cafés, restaurants, events and the car. It tells you whether ear protection is a good idea.
Videos
Check whether TV or tablet volume is too loud for a child.
Each result also shows how long a day is fine to listen (WHO children’s listening guidance) and how many times farther to move the sound.

Compare and find the quietest setup

Questions
Where does the 50 dB guideline come from?
It follows the noise limit for hospital newborn nurseries (Hugh et al., Pediatrics 2014). It is not an official guideline for homes.
How accurate is an iPhone microphone?
Microphones differ between devices, so treat the number as a reference. If you have a sound level meter, you can calibrate Sogon with it.
How does it know the sleep sound level?
It estimates the level from the phone volume and the distance to your baby’s head, deliberately on the loud side. If you measure at your baby’s spot with another device, you can correct it to that value.
Is it a medical device?
No. If you are worried about your baby’s hearing, please talk to a pediatrician.
